| Our mouthblown beads are handmade one by one in Murano in the timeless traditions of the glass furnace. We use canes in a technique known as "la canna" where the canes are first fused together in a "piastra" flat sheet, then slowly rollowing the blow pipe over this sheet, and using the glory hole to heat and merge the ends together. The blower then continues working in the flames heating and reheating and blowing to produce these great beads. Working at temperatures upwards of 900C, each bead is unique and variations in both size, exact shape and the color patterns is normal. |
